Thank You, President Paula Shugart
Last night at the YouTube Live Stream of the 72nd MISS UNIVERSE National Costume Show in El Salvador, Paula Shugart announced the end of her tenure as President of the MUO Organization.
“I can’t think of a better place than in this country and on this magnificent stage to announce the end of my tenure as the president of Miss Universe. I have decided that this Saturday will be my last show,” she said.
Shugart has been the Miss Universe Organization's president since 2001, after joining as vice president in 1998. Her responsibilities included supervising the annual Miss Universe broadcast as well as all business transactions.
The president praised the MUO organization for all of the experiences and pageant performances she was a part of and stated that her departure does not mean farewell.
"I stayed because of my belief in El Salvador and my love for the Miss Universe brand. I always passionately believe Miss Universe is not about any one one woman it's about community, our community. It's about the passionate fans, the titleholders, the national directors who have remained dedicated to this brand through thick and thin and because of them the Miss Universe brand is strong and will remain resilient," she stated.
The MUO Organization's Instagram page posted a message to their story:
Thank you so much, President Shugart, for everything. Your devotion and enthusiasm for the MUO, have evolved from just a beauty competition into an annual tribute of culture, women, and purpose. Under your direction, the brand has endured and thrived despite adversity.
