MISS UNIVERSE ORGANIZATION: MOVING BACKWARDS, NOT FORWARDS
"They can compete, but they cannot win."
That was the statement that shook up the whole pageant community when this was stated in a leaked video from October 2023, where the new Miss Universe owner, Anne Jakrajutatip said, "The trans women, women with husbands, divorced women… now that we changed the age limit, they can now [participate]."
Anne also stated, "This is a communication strategy because they can compete, but they cannot win."
The MUO CEO responded to the leaked video, "The maliciously edited video was out of context and used to manipulate other people which led to the public confusion, misunderstanding, misinterpretation and wrong conclusion."
However, Miss Universe Nepal 2023, Jane Dipika Garrett posted to her Instagram story that she knew it was "rigged."
"Honey, I knew it was rigged from the moment I was on stage. I realized us 'inclusion' girls weren't ever gonna get a real chance to win. But it is what it is and I'm super happy for my experience there and the platform I've been able to create. I have all my lovely fans and supporters and that's more than a crown for me," She stated in the Instagram story.
Many people on social media have criticized the MUO and Jakrajutatip for fake inclusivity and saying that the video has "wrecked" everything

This comes to light as the former Miss Universe Organization President, Paula Shugart announced that she is considering legal action against the new Miss Universe owner, Anne Jakrajutatip. Who accused her of "corruption," and "taking money 'under the table' to secure placements in Miss Universe competitions."
Many previous titleholders and candidates of the MU have left comments of support and came to the defense of Paula on her Instagram and social media.
With all of these allegations from both sides of the MU and pageantry, who knows what the future lies for the Miss Universe Organization.
